Births recorded in Clark County from 1867 to August 1908, are indexed
in our card file. Information from the actual record can consist of name,
date of birth, place of birth, parent’s names, residence of parents,
and who reported the birth. The cost of a birth record is $6.00.

2. DEATH RECORDS
Deaths recorded in Clark County from 1867 to August 1908, are also indexed
in our card file. Information can consist of name, date of death, and
marital status at time of death, age, place of death, place of birth,
occupation, name of father, name of mother, color, cause of death, place
of residence, and by whom the death was reported. The cost of a death
record is $6.00.

3. MARRIAGE RECORDS
Marriage records date from 1818 to the present. The records
from 1818 to 1867 are indexed in four red volumes compiled by the Ohio
State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The records
from 1867 to the present are all indexed in the card file according to
the man's last name. Information on the marriage records varies according
to the era. The very old records contain only the names of the couple
and sometimes the names of the parents. More recent records contain the
names, date of birth, place of birth, residence, occupation, name of
father, maiden name of mother, and previous marriages along with minor
children by that marriage. The cost of a marriage record for marriages
that ocurred before 1991 is $5.00 for the first copy and $2.00 for each
additional copy. The cost of a marriage record for marriages that occurred
after 1991 is $2.00 per copy.

4. NATURALIZATION RECORDS
Naturalization records from March 20, 1861, to March 5, 1904, are available
for you to see on microfilm here in the Court, however the index is
located at the Clerk of Courts Office, Common Pleas Court. All records
after March 5, 1904 are located at the Clerk of Courts Office, Common
Pleas Court, 101 N. Limestone St. Springfield, Ohio 45502 (937) 521.1687.
5. ESTATE RECORDS
Estate records date from 1818 to the present. All records from 1818 to
1985 are on microfilm here in the Court. All the original files for
these records are stored at the Clark County Historical Society. All
of the records from 1985 to the present are here in the Court. Copies
of these records are available at a charge of $.25 per page.
The Probate Court is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday. The Court is not open on Saturdays or holidays. We are located
in the County Offices/Municipal Court Building, 50 East Columbia Street,
Springfield, Ohio 45502.
All of our records, with the exception of confidential matters (adoption
and mental illness cases), are available for you to research personally.
We will, upon written request, make copies of birth, marriage, death,
and estate records. There is a $3.00 research fee for each name requested.
We are not staffed to do extensive genealogical research. However, and
at your request, we refer all of these inquiries to experienced researchers
in this area.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Birth and death records at the Community Health Center, 529 East Home
Road, Springfield, Ohio, date from August 1908, to the present. If
birth or death records from 1867 through 1908 cannot be found in our
Court, check with the Clark County Historical Society, whose address
can be found below. The Division of Vital Statistics, Ohio Department
of Health, Division of Vital Statistics, 35 E. Chestnut St. 6th Floor,
P. O. Box 15098, Columbus, Ohio, 43215-0098, has birth and death records
since 1908. The cost for a certified copy is $16.50 per record.

The Clark County Historical Society houses all of our original case
files and numerous other records dating from 1818 to 1985 including:
General Index to Case Files, Birth Registrations and Birth Corrections,
Medical Certificates, Will Records, Marriage Records.
They have a copy machine, and there is a charge of 20 cents per copy.
They are closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and are open 10:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday

CEMETERIES
Clark County Public Library has a book giving names of all cemeteries
in Ohio and their addresses.

The Clark County Historical Society has an index card system by name
of decedent. These records are not complete but are an excellent source
of information as to old records.

CENSUS RECORDS
The library has all census records for Clark County, giving name of head
of household, how many children, and what age group. The library also
has some census records for Miami and Champaign Counties (and other surrounding
countries).

LINEAGE BOOKS (DAC & DAR BOOKS ALSO)
The Library has Mayflower Book, etc., giving names of passengers on Mayflower
and naming ancestors through the Revolution.
CITY AND COUNTY DIRECTORIES
The library has all city directories and some rural directories.
NEWSPAPERS
The library has all evening papers since 1910. Costs for copies made at
the Library are 10 cents for Xerox & Reader-Printer.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH GROUP
This group meets regularly on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00
am in the Gaier Room at the Clark County Public Library - Main Branch.
They have speakers in and can give assistance on how to do research. Yearly
dues are $3.00.
