The Probate Judge is the
Judge and the Clerk of the Clark County Probate Court. This Court
of Common Pleas judgeship is an elected position with a six year term.
As the Clerk of the Probate Court, the Judge is responsible for keeping
and maintaining all records and filings in the Probate Court.
A dedicated public servant, Judge Carey has developed a broad-based
legal vocation. He began his career in the private practice of law
with his father, Norman C. Carey. Judge Carey subsequently joined
Clark County Prosecutor Stephen Schumaker and for over eight years
was a staff attorney and litigator, prosecuting over one hundred felony
jury trials. Judge Carey was appointed and subsequently elected to
the Clark County Municipal Court in January 1993 and served as its
Presiding Judge from January 2000 to January 2002.

A native Clark Countian, Judge Carey
is a graduate of Springfield North High School. He earned his Bachelor
of Arts Degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Juris Doctorate
Degree from the Petit School of Ohio Northern University. He holds
current membership in several professional organizations, among
them: The American Judges Association, Ohio Municipal Court Judges
Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Clark County Bar Association
and managed to invest time to share his judicial expertise as a
member of the Advisory Council of the Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation
Program, when under the aegis of the Ohio Supreme Court.
Judge Carey, himself one of ten children, and his wife Lisa, a registered
nurse, are the proud parents of four sons, Michael, Joshua, Kyle
and Braeden and two daughters, Chelsea and Jenna. He relaxes by
rooting for his beloved "Fighting Irish" and eagerly awaits
the return of Knute Rockne to South Bend. The judge also writes,
publishes and distributes music through Carey-Our Lady Publishing
Company, which he owns.
He's a past and occasionally a current participant with both the Ohio
Lyric Theatre and Ohio Civic Theatre. He coaches basketball, baseball
and softball for the National Trails Youth Sports program. Judge Carey
is a current member of Kiwanis International, 44th Ohio O.V.I. Community
Bank, is President of the Notre Dame Club of Springfield and Director
of the St. Teresa Church parish choir. |
